Do I need to change payroll now or when my visa expires?

I worked for the last 7 years with a Student visa and later 2 terms with a professional H1-B visa. I never needed to pay social or medical tax. Today I got my Employment Authorization card and I was wondering if I need to change payroll now or when my visa expires in September. Am I still a visa holder or an official alien?
